We now offer a two part online workshop to develop the foundations, behaviours, and systems needed for effective patient and family involvement in the most frequently used of the PSIRF Learning Response Tools , After Action Review.

It’s suitable for all those who have a role to lead AARs, or to guide and advise their organisation in implementing Patient Safety Incident Response Framework and the required patient engagement. Healthcare organisations have moved away from relying solely on investigations and have adopted a wider range of Learning Response Tools (LRTs), with After Action Reviews as the most frequently used approaches. However, many organisations tell us they are struggling with a critical question:

How do we involve patients and families in AARs in a way that is meaningful, safe and constructive for everyone involved?

To help answer that question, Judy Walker Associates Ltd and Advancing Quality Alliance (AQUA) have combined their expertise to launch a practical online programme called After Action Review with Patients: From Principles to Practice.

This highly interactive course is designed for organisations that want to move beyond good intentions and develop the skills, confidence and foundations needed to involve patients and families effectively in the AAR process.

Outcomes

1. To know the key components for setting up the AARs for success for the individual patients, and staff as well as the organisaiton
2. To know what your individual organisations’ strengths and weaknesses are in creating the conditions for successfully using AAR with patients
3. To know how to create psychologically safe conditions for learning in an AAR 
4. To know how to respond when challenges arise during an AAR
5. To know when best to use AAR (including Duty of Candour) and when not
6. To know what to do after the AAR is completed – navigating challenges and supporting patients and staff
7. To know how other health providers are working to involve patients and their families in AARs
