Expert AAR and BAR Facilitation

It is inevitable things will not go to plan some of the time. Failures, delays, and exceptional events are a reality of every organization’s life and recovery from them takes time and resource. Yet the disruption caused by such challenges creates a unique opportunity to see into the strengths and weaknesses in an organization. Whilst the instinct to “move on” can be powerful, holding After Action Reviews will ensure powerful lessons can be learned which will mitigate the cost to the organization and reduce future risks.

Examples of topics of AARs we have facilitated include: –

  1. Learning about phase one of an IT system update that encountered significant issues between contractors.
  2. Learning about the support needed by lawyers for a protracted case that went to trial.
  3. Learning from the response to the first Covid 19 surge at one acute trust
  4. Learning from a product launch that had difficulties between global and country based teams.
  5. Learning from the organization of a UK and Ireland wide businesses annual conference

The primary purpose of the Before Action Review (BAR) is to make sure that everyone in a group shares the same understanding of what is to be accomplished and how to create the conditions for success, predicting challenges and drawing on past lessons and good ideas. Investing in holding a BAR will build strong relationships from the start, reduce the size of the problems encountered and significantly increase situational awareness.

Examples of topic for BARs we have facilitated include:

  1. The merger of two organizations to enable the HR leaders to create alignment on the process and outcomes.
  2. Those involved in preparing to manage “Winter Pressures” in a healthcare system in inner London.
  3. Involving multiple stakeholders in the roll out of the After Action Review approach in an acute hospital

Our expert independent facilitation of AARs and BARs takes the form of: –

  • Thorough preparation of the scope of the AAR or BAR
  • Guidance to help participants prepare well for the AAR or BAR
  • Expert facilitation of the AAR or BAR
  • An AAR or BAR Report summarizing the learning and actions agreed.
  • A debriefing call to review the AAR or BAR and provide guidance on next steps.

Bespoke educational events design and facilitation.

We like creating the conditions for others to learn, whether that is during an AAR, throughout an AAR Conductor Workshop or for any context where new knowledge has to be acquired and solutions to be found. We will design and facilitate workshops and events on a wide range of topics, working with your subject matter experts. Fully mindful of the need to be inclusive and embrace diversity, our workshops and events create maximum engagement and powerful outcomes using experiential learning approaches and new technology.
